Nita Brady - Founder & Director

  • Mentor/volunteer counselor for Juvenile Offenders at Juvenile Justice for over 25 years.


  • Board Member for Friends Outside of Stanislaus County, Ca for over 20 years (support for inmates and their families, and job development for inmates).


  • Retired Regional Staff and Leadership Development Educator for California Sutter Hospitals for 21 years.


  • Author of award winning Wingman books 


  • International Speaker (speaking engagements in California, SC, Mexico, the U.K.).


  • Founder/Director of Beyond the Walls (support for adults and children with family members who have addiction and/or of incarceration issues) for over 20 years.  


  • Developed and established Beyond the Walls for Kids for a number of elementary and middle school children of the incarcerated and/or addicted, at various venues in Stanislaus County, California.


  • Created “Family Reading Circle” - a Program which involves the reading and discussion of Wingman books with formerly incarcerated persons and their children.

 

  • Created a Mentor Program to complement the “Beyond the Walls for Kids” Program for children living in a local homeless shelter.

  Contributing author of Voices From the Frontline: Ideas to Help Educators Solve Crucial Issues (university reference book for teachers). 

Recipient of The Ruby Award (2013) for her outstanding work with women and children.  

 Recipient of the Purple Dragonfly Award (2019) and The Royal Dragonfly Award (2020/2021) (international book awards, Excellence in Children’s Literature) for four of her books, including First Place.  

 Recipient of SPIE Award in 2019 (Stanislaus Partners in Education) for partnership with schools.

Recipient of Congressional Recognition for Outstanding and Invaluable Service to the Community, March 2023.

  Recipient of the County Board of Supervisors Appreciation Award for Community Service, March 2023.  

 Recipient of the NAACP Certificate of Appreciation for Community Service Award, March 2023.
